Book Review:- “Dongri to Dubai: Six Decades of the Mumbai Mafia” by S. Hussain Zaidi
When I bought this book, I didn’t have much expectation from it. But I was proven wrong, when S. Hussain Zaidi’s terrific narrative continued to amaze me from start to end of this book..
Stories of the underworld dons are written with a slight liberal creative imagination of his mind; which looks like a delicious dish of food has been served in front of you with full garnishing…
You can’t differentiate whether stories are more interesting or the way Zaidi presented them…
This book is a story of last six decades of mafia kings, as its front cover stats. A start with last interview of Dawood taken by him; he narrates the story of Pathan brothers, Haji Mastan, Karim Lala, Vardabhai and mainly the king of all of them, Dawood Hasan Ibrahim Kaskar. He talks about Dowood’s life from his childhood to his position in world today; about his family condition, his first small gang, his love life, his marriage, his children, his contacts with high officials, his life in Dubai and Karachi. His tricks of smuggling, extortion of money from businessmen, involvement in Bollywood, killing of famous personalities, his part in bomb blasts in Mumbai and relations with terrorists and other mafias; all narrative about these incidents is praiseworthy.
I don’t know about authenticity of his work but if you are searching for a book just to enjoy mafia stories overlooking how much truth lies behind it; then this nonfiction book written more like a fiction is best for you..
