Gleichwertigkeitsprüfung = Kenntnisprüfung = Medical Knowledge Test

After your application for Approbation… (For non-EU people) All documents are verified by Gutachter… He/she will check your documents and compare your studies with German medical study requirements… If your study is compatible, there is no need to appear for this exam, and you will receive Approbation…. If it’s not compatible, it will be required to clear this exam, only after that Approbation can be received… (Almost all medical graduates from India, requires to give this exam…)

Kenntnisprüfung is medical examination viva in German…
Internal medicine, surgery, pharmacology, radiology and any other medical questions asked…
That needs to be cleared within 18 months of application of Berufserlaubnis/Approbation… (If started working, before the Berufserlaubis expires)
One can appear maximum 3 times for this exam…

Required German knowledge and fees according to different states can be found on this link (click here).

    Hello Dr. Thejas sir,

Leaving one more question. Sir I have heard that if someone works on a Berufserlaubnis in Bayern, the period he/she works shall not be considered for Weiterbildung in Bayern and also anywhere else. Is it true sir? And also all the Aerztekrammer are asking for a certificate showing no. of stunden in each Fach in Medicine. How does it look like ? If possible can you please post some pic of it sir?

Sir, it seems like you have done MBBS in India. I wanted to ask that how difficult is it to transform your whole medical learning from english to german. I mean I saw some medical terms…and even the bones have different names in german. So is it possible for a student who has done MBBS in india (in english language) to become so fluent in medical german that he can understand the complex pathology of diaeases.

    • yes it is possible. It takes few years but it is possible.
Even after 4 years, sometimes I encounter some words that I need to pronounce it loud, just to understand und learn the pronouncement.
But I can understand all medical words and what is written there. I think it took less than a year of working in hospital, to understand all medical terms.
